You can go to Carnival in the day time and take part in the Culacos sp? At night there will be deafening loud Panamanin reggaeton concerts and some parades. There will be parades in the day as well. If you want to go to a very local Celebraion you can take a bus to Capira which takes about an hour, That one will be very local and very loud and probably safe. Eben though most everybody leaves the city for Carnival it should be fun for you.

Has anyone heard if there is a parade Saturday? Most teenagers and up frequent the open-air disco called PH or X-Zone after the fireworks conclude around midnight, which feature the best national reggaeton artists among other styles and lasts till dawn. Wednesday means a return for many to Panama City: good-byes to family and friends who remain outside the capital and strict attendance to Ash Wednesday mass. Many Panamanians take the five-day long weekend as a time as a vacation and enjoy their cultural celebrations, saving up money to participate in travel and entertainment.

The bars will have more live music and will generally be livelier and more crowded. The waterfront bar Tisa Mar, in particular, usually has live music and charges admission. Dolega, David, and Las Lajas, all in Chiriqui, have carnival celebrations. Now they do celebrate Carnival, but I think it is still only during daylight hours. Below, I describe 9 towns where you can celebrate carnival. What to Expect During Carnival Wherever you go, there will will be alot of smiles, music, dancing, and drinking. In the bigger celebrations you will find: Street parties Fireworks Street food Drinking — lots of drinking Getting Wet. Keep an eye out for mojaderas, culecos, water balloons or a bucket of water. This is good, because it will be hot. The water activities are usually confined to the morning or at least to the daylight hours.
FYI — A mojadera is a spray of water designed to soak you. A culeco is a cistern truck with a fire hose. Parades with floats and music. Diablicos — or devils — will often be apart of these parades see photo above. They tend to wear colorful masks and are a very active and fun part of the festivities. Different parts of the country have different devil dances, masks, outfits, and significance.
Chiriqui Province The Chiriqui Province is not a place to go for an exceptional carnival experience.
