How many lipos for racing

Lipo batteries, how many races do you get? I'm looking to buy a fairly inexpensive battery, maybe mAh, and I can't decide if it'll be enough to last a race? I've not been doing this long. My current batteries are mAh, I always charge one while I'm using the other and alternative between the two batteries for each race.

One of the batteries is slightly swollen, and has been for a while, so I think it's time I replaced it. I think, that during a 5 minute race I'm using between mAh per race. I'm just wondering what others use per race? Do you use one battery per race, or do you use a single battery for multiple race? Keen to hear what others do. I used to quite easily do 2 races with a 6,mAh pack and also with a 5, too, but I used to cut the practise laps a little and turn the end points down just to be sure.

If you're able to charge between races then just charge it, it'll only take twice as long to charge after 2 runs. I usually charge packs between rounds but leave one round rest to avoid recharging while the pack is still warm.

Having minimum three packs allows you to race one, charge another and rest the one you've just used. With a mah pack you might lack some punch, depending on the C rating. Me and my lad both have 2 sets each. We do practice and one race on the first set, next two races on the next set and so on. They're mAh and I generally only put back in around mAh. I have 1 mah 35c lipo and i charge with a low amp charger. I get through a night of racing.

Another battery would be nice I think! I have found you can get by with one battery but if you want to practice prior to the races starting you may get caught short with insufficient time to re-charge. Two batteries and you should be good to go. Fast running race program with few heats. Bump ups no time to recharge. Originally Posted by Phoebe.

If I practice before racing on my nimh's for now? I only run 1 lipo mah 20C per raceday I use mah in a 6 min race. Plus I imagine it's less wear and tear on each battery when I can rotate them. I believe in using 4 packs due to wear and tear on the packs.

I just picked up my last 2 packs so now I have 4 for race day. When I raced 10 years ago I followed the same rule 4 packs per class per raceday. However 2 packs for race day works well just top off between heats.

I have 4 total batteries. I run 2 in my truck for 1 night of racing. I have 2 SPC 20c mah 2s packs. I charge them up the night before so I can practice without having to wait. Recharge before racing then I can put my charger back in the tool box for the night.

I run 1 battery for 3 qualifier heats then change batteries to the fresh one for the main event. I'm doing just fine with 2, switching back and forth. Very important on a race day, if you're using two identical batteries, find some of those old numberplate stickers nobody seems to use anymore or something to identify them.

You'd be surprised at how easily you can put the dead battery you just ran back into your truck and plug the fully charged one into the charger again neither situation promotes a good outcome. Normally I take 3. I hope the industry takes up on this soon or we need to make a board where you fake a 6S setup by putting 6 single cells in serie. A slight question remaining tho, on the landing at 3. Would this be the voltage read while flying i. This would be in the air. The voltage sag really depends on how powerful your quad is.

If you land when it drops to 3. Obviously just trying to get into this hobby. Sorry for dumb questions but these are thorough how tos. First, you mention checking the draw of the motors.

How is that done? Second, on the chart you used to come up with amps it says 16v. For what reason is that selected over 14 or 15?

Is one used more than the other? Data for motor amp draw is normally provided by manufacturers, check product pages. Motor Amp draw is higher when voltage is higher, so we tend to use a higher voltage to test motors. For 4S lipo, 16V Check out my tutorial about mini quad frames. Both units are commonly used. I have a small drone, HS I have batteries from a previous drone that fit, however they are much higher capacity.

Can I use those batteries in the drone without an issue? You can use it, the voltage is the same. Only concern would be weight, the mAh might be a bit heavy : but give it a try :. Hi I got the hobbywing xrotor kv I have already seen how kill the battery in few minutes. What battery do you recommend me? The weight of the quad will be probably g aprox. I would like the most possible time flying. I have tested 4S mah 75C and mah and killed all the batteries….

If you are using batteries in series, they should be of the same model same brand and same capacity for maximum safety and performance. Thanks for posting. Nice explanation and very thorough. I know I want a mAh x 6S battery and 20C is fine. Now, what do I buy? Do the expensive ones last longer? Do they store charge when not used any differently?

What am I missing? But quality is actually one major factor when it comes to the price of the battery, how much they invest in the material, quality control, marketing etc…. Too many manufacturers simply provide too little information or even false information on the box. The good thing is there are many battery testing and review online you can go and check out. At least if something goes wrong you still have a responsive and reliable customer support to go to.

If you are not sure if a brand is legit, just ask on our forum intofpv. Hi I really like your website : I cant find one answer on my question anywhere. Great article. Have you heard of such a thing and do you think there is any benefit storing your lipos in a fridge long-term?
